In
form Victorian Ash Hall has fired a course record to win the $25,000 Commercial
Club Albury Pro-Am.
Continuing
the form run that saw him push Jordan Spieth at the Australian Open, Hall fired
an 8-under par 62 to finish two shots clear of his nearest rival.
"I’ve
played all over the world, these greens are the best I’ve seen" Hall said at
presentations.
Hall’s
round included eight birdies and an eagle on the par-5 second hole as he shot
to 3-under after just two holes.
Players
awoke to friendly conditions after an overnight sprinkling of rain took the
fire out of the greens. A few morning showers cleared the way for a
cloudy afternoon with light winds.
Young
Victorian Chris Thorn continued his purple patch of form, a 6-under 64 gave him
his second runner-up finish in the past few events.
As
has become the standard, Commercial Club Course Superintendant Anthony Toogood
prepared the course in sensational condition. Firm, fast and true greens
were complemented with lush fairways receiving praise from all players.
Victorian
pair Andrew Martin and David Bransdon both carded a 5-under par 65 to tie with
up and coming Queenslander Sam Daley.
Both
Martin and Bransdon had other things on their mind, Martin led Bransdon by just
over $800 dollars going into the final event of the VIC/TAS Divison Order of
Merit. The tie between the two meant Martin takes home the Peter Thomson
Trophy for 2016.
Hall
has been buoyed by his last couple of weeks; his 2017 schedule looks completely
different with a visit to the third major of the year, the Open Championship
locked in.
"The
last couple of weeks have been great, it’s a pity Christmas is not a few more
weeks away" said Hall.
The
2017 season kicks off at the Goonawarra Golf Club Pro-Am on Friday, 6th
January following a well earned break for all players.
