Victoria’s Matt Griffin has posted his career best result on the Japan Tour with a T5 finish at The Crowns tournament this week.
Griffin earned his card for the Tour at the end of 2014 and played steady golf in 2015 to retain playing rights with a 68th place finish on the end of year money list.
In his previous two starts in 2016 the 32-year-old had been at less than his best with finishes in the back half of the field but three sub-par rounds this week will give him plenty of confidence going forward.
Japan Tour stalwart Brendan Jones also posted his best result of the year with his first top-10 of the season thanks to a 1-under total over the 72 holes.
A previous winner of the event, Jones started hot with a 3-under opening round and followed up with scores of 70-71-71 to finish in a share of 10th.
New Zealand’s Michael Hendry also came out the gates fats with a Thursday 65 to hold a share of second place but he
lost momentum with a 3-over second round and slipped down the standings to eventually finish T12.
Adam Bland (T18) and Kurt Barnes (T24) were the only other Australians to make the cut, Brad Kennedy and Won Joon Lee failing to make the weekend’s play.
