Griffin looking to make Japan move

Matt Griffin has made the long trip from England to Japan to be one of six Australians to tee up in the Fukushima Open.

""Griffin missed the cut at Royal Birkdale after struggling in the trying conditions on Friday but will be keen to return to Fukushima where he has a good record.

The Victorian has played the event twice before for T13 and T35 results and as he currently sits outside the top 70 earners guaranteed a card for next year will be keen to cash another decent cheque this year.

While Griffin has been a regular starter at the tournament only Kurt Barnes among the rest of the Australians has played the event previously.

Barnes missed the cut in his only appearance at the inaugural event in 2014 though at 67th on the money list is, like Griffin, in need of some good results.

Won Joon Lee, David Bransdon, Aaron Townsend and Steven Jeffress are the other Australians in the field.

Townsend is playing just his second event in Japan for the year after losing his card in 2016 while Jeffress plays his first.
