Ryan Lynch has returned to the site of his first victory and will be aiming to go back-to-back at the TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA Championship this week.
Claiming the title last year in dramatic fashion, Lynch started the final round six shots off the pace and had a nervous wait to see if he would be headed to a playoff.
However the Victorian ended up the outright winner and returns to Kalgoorlie Golf Course with fond memories.
It’s always nice to come back here, it’s a fantastic place. It seems to get greener and greener every year," said Lynch of the Graham Marsh designed layout in the Australian outback.
"This is the fourth year I have been back now so walking around the course I have a lot of good memories on a lot of the holes."
"Obviously the confidence from winning and coming back to where you have played well always sparks an extra little bit of interest."
Throughout 2015 Lynch has reaped the benefits of being a tournament winner on the PGA Tour of Australasia enjoying access to all the Tour’s biggest events, however as an added bonus, he also earned a place in the European Tour’s Russian Open.
"Any time you win it’s obviously a really big confidence boost but it opened up a lot of doors for me as well," added Lynch.
"It gave me a couple a starts in tournaments I wouldn’t have got otherwise."
"Some on the OneAsia tour and one in particular on the European Tour, I played the Russian Open, about a month or so ago so that was fantastic," continued Lynch who finished tied 40th.
While his performances’ since his breakthrough win haven’t been what he would have liked, Lynch is confident of a second win at the WA PGA Championship thanks to a lesson with his father, renowned golf coach, Dale Lynch.
"I haven’t won a second tournament but I would have thought it should be a bit easier. Once you have that first win off your back and you’re in contention you have that belief you can do it again," said Lynch, whose best performance since his win has been a T13 at the 2014 NSW Open and 2015 NZ PGA Championship.
"My form has slowly been getting better, it was a struggle in the middle of the year, but it’s on its way up now,"
"I had a really good session with the old man last week and it’s starting to turn around."
Ryan Lynch will tee off his title defence at 7am on Thursday and will play alongside Victorian Kristopher Mueck and West Australian Michael Sim.
The TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA Championship will be played at Kalgoorlie Golf Course from 29th October to 1stNovember.
Along with the winner’s share of the $120,000 prize purse, the champion will be fully exempt onto the PGA Tour of Australasia until the end of 2017 and receive Official World Golf Ranking points.
