Gibson cutting it fine

A missed cut at the Web.com Tour’s second to last full field event of the season has left Rhein Gibson in a precarious position as the four tournament Finals Series approaches.

A missed cut at the Web.com Tour’s second to last full field event of the season has left Rhein Gibson in a precarious position as the four tournament Finals Series approaches.

""Gibson, who advanced to the PGA TOUR via the Qualifying Series in 2015, has been at less than his best in 2017 and came to Tennessee in 68th position on the money list.

Only the top 75 will be eligible for the final four events of the year which will decide 25 PGA TOUR cards for 2018 and Gibson now finds himself in 71st place with only next week’s Winco Foods Portland Open remaining.

Only Jamie Arnold is ensured of a place in the Finals as he sits 52nd on the money list, the Web.com rookie finishing T56 this week at 4-under.

Five Australians were in the field at the News Sentinel Open, Steve Allan, Arnold and Robert Allenby the three to survive the cut.

Allan and Allenby are also playing for their futures as both sit outside the top 100 on the money list, the cut off number for those automatically keeping their cards next season.

Allan is 122nd with one event remaining while Allenby is 102nd, both needing to find form next week if they are to tee up regularly again next year.

It was a disappointing weekend for Allan who started with rounds of 66-68 to be inside the top five but faded with scores of 72-71.

Mark Hensby was the last Australian in the field but he, like Gibson, missed the weekend with rounds of 71-74.
