After a brilliant final round 66 to close
out last week’s Made in Denmark Challenge Daniel Gaunt will be motivated to
keep the good play going at the Slovakia Challenge this week.
The Victorian opened with a 66 at this
tournament last year and has been close to good form in recent weeks with
several good rounds spoiled by some indifferent golf in between.
Consistency is the only thing holding Gaunt
back and after playing his way into the top-45 on the Road to Oman standings
last week he has plenty of incentive to push ahead.
If he can stitch together four good rounds
in Slovakia it would be a big confidence boost for the 37-year-old.
Also making a move on the Road to Oman list
recently is New Zealand’s Ryan Fox who currently sits just outside the top-15
who will graduate to the main European Tour at the end of the year.
Fox missed out on the top-15 by one spot
last year and will be keen to make amends this season.
After a runner-up finish at his last
Challenge Tour start in Scotland, Fox is in good form and a good result this
week would go a long way towards achieving his main tour ambitions.
Fox and Gaunt are joined in this week’s
field by Ben Eccles, who plays for the third time on a sponsor’s invitation,
Dimi Papadatos and Antonio Murdaca.
Murdaca is also playing his third event and
searching for his first made cut while Papadatos, who has been playing
predominantly on the main Tour this year, also makes his third start and is yet
to make a cut.
