Fresh Day ready for Hawaii

It’s been more than three months since Jason Day played a competitive round of golf but the World Number 2 will be looking to rekindle his love affair with the Kapalua course at this week’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.

""Day fired an incredible final round of 11-under-par 62 last year to get within a shot of a play-off between Jimmy Walker and Patrick Reed but will be hoping to go one better in 2016.

Day is one of two Australians to qualify for the tournament which is restricted to winners of PGA TOUR events the previous season. Steven Bowditch is the other Australian in the field.

Day last played at the TOUR Championship in September and has been on an extended break since as wife Ellie gave birth to the couple’s second child.

But he will be refreshed and ready to renew his battle with World Number 1 Jordan Spieth this week on a course that sets up perfectly for the Queenslander’s power game.

Both Day and Spieth won five times in 2015, the Australian’s run of four victories in seven events to close out the season one of the highlights of a gripping year.

Bowditch tees up in the winners only event this week for the second time after claiming his second TOUR title in 2015.

The 32-year-old had his best season as a professional last year, his week-in week-out consistency the most improved aspect of his game.

While he had an indifferent run of tournaments in Australia over the summer Bowditch will be well rested having not played since the Australian Open and the wide fairways at Kapalua should suit his aggressive style of play.

He finished T22 here last year with rounds of 69-73-71-69 but will be keen to kickstart a big 2016 with some better play this week.
