Marcus Fraser is going head-to-head with Olympic teammate Scott Hend in the race for the Asian Tour Order of Merit prize when he tees up at the Indonesian Masters this week.
Hend, who cemented his place on top of the standings with a T4 result last week, has elected not to play in Indonesia handing Fraser an opportunity to close the $105,000 gap between them.
The Victorian claimed his second Asian Tour title at the European Tour co-sanctioned Maybank Malaysia Championship in February and backed that up with a joint second place finish at the Panasonic Open in April.
Hend, meanwhile, has two victories, a runner-up and last week’s top-5 in eight starts for the year to lead the Order of Merit race.
"Scott is playing really well at the moment but if I play well here, I will get back in the (Order of Merit) race so hopefully I can find some form," Fraser told the Asian Tour website on the eve of the tournament.
"I’m coming here from a two-week break where I only played nine holes. Hopefully I can charge the batteries a little bit."
Fraser is one of 12 Australians in the field this week including Asian Tour regulars Terry Pilkadaris, Adam Groom, Sam Brazel, Kalem Richardson, Unho Park and Scott Barr.
Matt Jager and Josh Shaw have received tournament invites while Michael Wright, Darren Tan and Marcus Both round out the Australian challenge.
With five full field events left until the end of the Asian Tour schedule Scott Barr and Kalem Richardson will be looking for form this week.
Both are outside the top-60 who retain status for next year, Barr 68th and Richardson 78th.
