Ryan Fox continued his hot form of the past two weeks with bookend rounds of 65 to finish T10 at the combined European/Challenge Tour’s Madeira Islands Open.
The two time PGA Tour of Australasia winner has been scintillating since his final round 67 at St Andrews at The Open which he parlayed into his first Challenge Tour victory last week.
That win in France earned him a start this week in a tournament he wasn’t part of when it originally teed off in March before being cancelled due to bad weather and rescheduled for this week.
An opening 7-under 65 in Portugal had Fox in a share of third through 18 holes and on track to go back-to-back but he ran out of momentum on day two, stumbling to a 1-over-par 73 and struggling again on day three with an even par round.
However, Fox got back on track in the final round with another 7-under-par effort to get to 13-under for the week and a share of 10th place.
The New Zealander has made an incredible 61 birdies and three eagles in the past three weeks and is 31-under-par for that stretch.
He now sits ninth on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit and is almost certain to have status on the European Tour next year if he can hold a place in the top-15 till year’s end.
Fox was joined in the field this week by Jason Scrivener, Terry Pilkadaris, Daniel Gaunt and Todd Sinnott who all played when the tournament was cancelled in March.
Scrivener was the only one of the four to survive the cut finishing T34 at 6-under for the week.
What a trip to Europe. @TheOpen, a @Challenge_Tour win and 3 top tens. Back home for a little break tomorrow!! #FoxTracker
