After scraping through the cut on the number Ryan Fox jumped more than 30 places up the leaderboard with a solid final round at the rain shortened Joburg Open in South Africa.
Weather delays over the opening two days eventually forced organisers to declare the tournament a 54-hole event and Fox sprinted to the line on day three with a 3-under 69.
Having made the cut right on the number at 4-under, scoring conditions proved more difficult Sunday and Fox’s final round was enough to move from T82 to T50.
Things looked even more promising early in the day for the popular Kiwi when he opened his account with an eagle at the first hole but a bogey at the second set the tone for the round.
The eagle and four birdies were offset by three dropped shots and at 7-under for the 72 holes Fox eventually finished eight shots behind leader Daren Fichardt of South Africa.
Fox was the only Australasian in the field and will remain in South Africa for this week’s Tshwane Open in Pretoria.
