Fowler was one of four Australians to take his place in the field at the Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C but the only one to make the cut.
As Germany’s Bernhard Langer took the title by a shot from Vijay Singh in a thrilling finish, Fowler played consistent golf over the four days to finish the tournament T38.
The five time European Senior Tour winner looked in trouble after an opening 2-over 74 but played beautifully in the second round to shoot 69 and make the cut by a shot.
Back to back rounds of 1-over 73 were enough to see the Sydneysider move up the standings and post his best finish in eight starts at the tournament.
Craig Parry, Mike Harwood and Tim Elliott were the other Australians in the field but none made the weekend rounds.
