Peter Fowler will fly the Australian flag solo at this week’s U.S. Senior Open championship in Massachusetts.

The five-time European Senior Tour winner earned his place in the field by finishing in the top six on that circuit’s Order of Merit in 2016.

The U.S. Senior Open, being staged at the famed Salem Country Club, is the third Major on the over 50’s circuit for the year and Fowler’s second.

Fowler finished T38 at the Senior PGA Championship in May and is making his sixth consecutive appearance in the U.S. Senior Open.

With a best finish of T17 in both 2012 and 2015, Fowler has shown a liking for the demanding layouts used for the event and after a top five finish in Europe last week will like his chances of a personal best this week.

Fowler tees off the 10^th tee at 7.42am alongside Spain’s Miguel Angel Martin and American John Huston.
