First Stage Q-School continues strongly


Round two of the PGA Tour of Australasia First Stage Qualifying School was contested today across four venues with tomorrow’s final round looming as a make or break day for many.

""At Riverside Oaks Golf Resort, weather delays affected play which saw both round one and two completed today. Alex Hawley leads the field after round two firing a 4-under 67 to be 9-under going into the final round and one shot ahead of Nathan Miller.

At the Sandhurst Club Lucas Herbert, who made his Professional debut at this year’s UNIQLO Masters, leads the field in Victoria on 4-under after firing 3-under 69 to take a two shot lead over James Gibellini from Queensland who fired a 1-under 71.

Kiwi duo Mathew Perry and amateur Vaughan McCall sit on even par heading into the final round after a 2-under 70 and 5-under 67 respectively.

In the Sunshine State, local Queenslanders Paul Hayden and Aaron Wilkin picked up the pace after starting the day one shot back from the lead group.  The pair ended the day tied for the lead on 7-under after Hayden shot a 2-under 70 and Wilkin 4-under which included six birdies.

In New Zealand, Tyler Hodge continued to dominate the top of the leaderboard after firing a 6-under 66 to go into the final round on 10-under and one shot clear of Brad Hayward on 9-under.  

Tomorrow will see the final round of First Stage Qualifying School completed which will see 46 players qualify through to the Final Stage Qualifying School in late January.

The breakdown will see the top 15 finishes from New South Wales, top 14 from Victoria, top 13 from Queensland and top four from New Zealand qualify through to the Final Stage next month.
