Damien Jordan and Paul Hayden have been declared joint winners of the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series Sunshine Swing Cairns Classic, while Tim Elliott charged home to claim the Ladbrokes PGA Legends Tour Cairns Classic title.
Hayden held the overnight lead after firing a 6-under par 65, and even though he was out early this morning, could make the most of the perfect scoring conditions, only managing a 2-over par 73, to post a tournament total of 4-under.
Jordan knew what he had to do at the start of his round and even though the course played at its hardest this afternoon, a 3-under par 68 to go with his opening round 70 was good enough to match the total set by Hayden.
“The course was set up tough today, the pins were difficult which made it really hard to get the ball close to the hole," said Hayden.
“My iron play wasn’t quiet as sharp as yesterday, but I guess the conditions certainly played its part in today’s round as well.
“Although somewhat disappointed with my round when I walked off today, it’s pretty satisfying to walk away with the win alongside Damien.”
Starting the day one shot behind overnight leader Mike Zilko, current Ladbrokes Legends Tour Order of Merit Leader Tim Elliott shot the equal low round of the day to win by four shots from Tod Power.
Elliott’s round of 3-under par 68 gave him a 4-under par total finishing four shots ahead of Power, who was looking for his first win of the year.
“It’s been a number of years since I have visited Paradise Palms and until Friday, I didn’t remember how difficult the course plays,” said Elliott.
“I did play well, but it was definitely my putter that kept the momentum going for me in today’s round.
“It’s great to walk away with a win and extend my lead in the Order of Merit and a good result ahead of a busy schedule over the next few months."
Breanna Gill followed on from her opening round to secure the ALPG Cairns Classic on even par, finishing five shots ahead of her nearest competitor in Jessica Cowie.
Professionals will now head home, before the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series and Ladbrokes Legends Tour head to Samoa later this month.
