Brett Drewitt has maintained his place on
the fringes of the top-25 of the Web.com money list by following up a career
best finish last outing with another solid showing this week.
Drewitt was T2 at the BMW Charity Pro-am
two weeks ago, the high finish pushing him to 27th on the money list
with about half the season to go.
This week’s T19 result is his next best of
2016 and if the 25-year-old can continue to play well he is a genuine chance to
move into the top-25 and earn status on the PGA TOUR in 2017.
Drewitt graduated to the Web.com Tour from
the PGA Tour China in 2014 and while he struggled in 2015 and for much of the
early part of 2016 seems to now be finding his feet.
The Web.com might be the most competitive
Tour in the world, that fact highlighted by Drewitt’s 16-under total for the 72
holes being eight shots behind the winner.
Just two shots behind Drewitt was another
PGA Tour China graduate in Bryden Macpherson who was T26 after his four days’
work.
Like Drewitt, Macpherson had a difficult
2015 and lost his Web.com status before returning to the PGA Tour China and
posting two victories in eight starts to win the money list title and exemption
back to the secondary US circuit.
While his start to 2016 was less than
stellar his play in his last two events has been markedly improved and if he
can find some of the confidence he displayed late last year in China he can
expect more good results.
Seven Australians teed up this week in the
Dominican Republic with Steve Allan the only other to make the cut.
The Victorian veteran was in good position
through three rounds but an even par 72 Sunday saw him drop 12 places to T28.
Oliver Goss, Scott Gardiner, Greg Chalmers
and Mathew Goggin all missed the 36 hole cut.
