Brett Drewitt has stormed home over the final two rounds of the Web.com Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-am event to finish in a share of second.
After opening with a 5-under 67, Drewitt had his worst score of the week on day two with a 2-under 70 before posting 64 and 66 on the weekend to come within a whisker of a maiden Web.com Tour victory.
Four back-9 birdies on Sunday saw Drewitt applying pressure to the leaders but America’s Richy Werenski proved too strong in the end, beating home the Australian and two others to take the title.
It was a welcome turnaround in form for Drewitt who has struggled with his game all year, including missing four consecutive cuts over March and April.
Drewitt had been languishing outside the top-100 on the money list but his good play this week will see him move into the top-30 and reignite his hopes of earning a PGA TOUR card by season’s end if he can climb into the top-25.
It was also an encouraging week for Bryden Macpherson who posted his best result for the year, a T16.
Like Drewitt, Macpherson has found the going tough in 2016 but scores of 67-67-72-67 suggest his game is rounding nicely into form.
While still a long way from the top-25 money earners, Macpherson will take plenty of positives from a week where he made 17 birdies and an eagle.
Also finishing T16 was Peter Lonard after making just his second cut of the year.
Oliver Goss was the last of the Australians to make the cut, a third round 64 a highlight of the week on his way to a T32 finish.
Steve Allan, Nick Flanagan, Scott Gardiner, Bronson La’Cassie and Mathew Goggin all missed the weekend’s play.
