Former standout amateur Geoff Drakeford has made a solid debut on the European Challenge Tour finishing in a share of 24th in his first outing in Switzerland.
Former standout amateur Geoff Drakeford has made a solid debut on the European Challenge Tour finishing in a share of 24th in his first outing in Switzerland.
Drakeford was under par in three of the
four rounds of the tournament, his only blemish coming in the second round where
back to back double bogeys to start the back nine saw him post 1-over for the
day.
His 4-under total for the week matched
Challenge Tour veteran Scott Arnold, the pair finishing seven shots out of a
play-off between American Daniel Im and Englishman Gary Boyd.
With 19 birdies and an eagle for the week
Drakeford showed plenty of potential and if he continues to gain playing
opportunities seems destined to make it to one of the game’s two biggest Tours
sooner than later.
Arnold has also shown consistency this year
and while yet to post a top-10 has made the cut in all four Challenge Tour
events this season.
For rookie Todd Sinnott a recent run of
poor form continued, rounds of 79-80 seeing him miss his third straight cut.
It’s a disappointing run for one as
talented as the Victorian and would be a surprise if it continued.
