Queenslander Andrew Dodt will start the final round of the BMW PGA Championship at 9.10pm AEST tonight with a one shot lead.
On a tough Saturday at Wentworth, Dodt fired 4-under 68 to claim the top spot on the ladder.
"I just wanted to hit each shot at a time and commit to that shot, which I think I did. I had a few chances early on I didn’t quite take, and then just played a solid back nine, and it got a little bit tricky with the wind,” said Dodt.
"I’ve been working pretty hard on the mental side. I think that helped me today for sure and probably my short game as well.
“I needed to tidy it up a bit over the last few months and I didn’t need it too much today because my long game was pretty good. It all feels pretty good.”
But if he is to become the first Australian in 27 years to win the title, he will need to hold off a world class chasing pack including Open Champion Henrik Stenson, Branden Grace, Lee Westwood and Francesco Molinari.
"There will be a few nerves, a lot of nerves there but I’ve just got to try to do what I’ve been doing the last three days and if I can do that, I can give myself a chance,” added Dodt.
Dodt has won twice on the European Tour but both his victories came in Asia. He has been experiencing some good form this season with two top-3 finishes in first two tournaments.
While all eyes will be on Dodt’s game, Aussie golf fans will also recognise his caddy with New South Welshman Dimitrios Papadatos on his bag.
Papadatos flew straight to Wentworth from winning the TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA Championship last week on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.
