The Australian PGA Championship week kicked off on Sunday 7th December at RACV Royal Pines Resort, with 56 club golfers from surrounding areas competing in the final of the Road to the PGA Championship.

In what was a sneak peak to the course before the Professionals hit the fairways from tomorrow onwards, the amateur golfers, who had won their way into the final via local club qualifying events, were amongst the first to play the course set up in full tournament condition with the newly designed front nine.

Whilst the main prize was being there on the day, it wouldn’t be a championship event without an eventual winner. Luke Black from RACV Royal Pines Resort took home honours in the inaugural Road to the PGA final with a single stableford score of 41 points.

Luke takes home a prize courtesy of Flight Centre for his efforts on the day, and the bragging rights of being the first person to win the Road to the PGA title.

The Road to the PGA was launched in the lead up to the 2014 Australian PGA Championship with the aim of providing amateur golfers with the opportunity to be part of the PGA’s flagship event, commencing this week at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

The local qualifying rounds were held between August to November at 52 clubs across the South East Queensland and Northern NSW regions. In excess of 1300 participants took part in the inaugural local events, with local winners securing their position in the final.

All participants in the Road to the PGA receive a free any one day ticket to the Australian PGA Championship to be played from 11 – 14 December.
