South Australian Tom Bond was
impressive in the first round of the Nexus South West Open firing a 6-under 66
at Bunbury Golf Club.
Coming into the tournament in good
form, Bond was happy to limit his mistakes and finish the day with a one shot
lead.
"I’ve been playing well lately but have
been throwing in a couple of big numbers and stumbling at the final hurdle,"
said Bond.
"Today was a lot more fun. I was able
to keep the ball in play and with just one bogey it was nice to enjoy a fairly
stress free round."
Sitting just one shot back is rookie
Lindsay Wilson who has been making his presence known on the Pro-Am Series and
PGA Tour of Australasia.
"I’ve been playing some solid golf
lately so was very happy to notch up another good score," said Wilson, who
finished runner-up at the TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship in May.
Not to be outdone and just two shots
back Bond’s fellow South Australian, Jason Norris posted a solid 4-under 68 along
with Alexander Pitty of New South Wales.
Pitty is enjoying his first trip to Western
Australia this year after graduating from his PGA Traineeship in 2015.
"We’ve had an epic road trip over here
and this experience has been terrific. I’ve had a couple of decent finishes in
WA already so it’s good to keep the momentum going."
The field took advantage of the
perfect scoring conditions with 22 players under par after the day one.
