The unique event brings together several of the region’s top amateurs to play with the Pros under tournament conditions, nine Australasians part of the field this year.
Japan Tour regulars Bland, Brendan Jones, Brad Kennedy, Matt Griffin and New Zealand’s Michael Hendry are joined by the Asian Tour’s Terry Pilkadaris.
Lucas Herbert has received a tournament invite while amateurs Dylan Perry from NSW and Nick Voke of New Zealand have also earned starts.
Bland has the best record of the Australians teeing up this week, his T9 in 2014 the best by any player form this part of the world since the tournament made its debut that year.
Consistent play last week at the ANA Open saw the South Australian finish T11, a welcome return to form after back to back missed cuts.
While he hasn’t been at his best in 2017 Bland has played decent golf for most of the season and last week’s finish suggest his game is in good shape with some of the Tour’s biggest events just around the corner.
Also looking for a good result this week is Matt Griffin who sits just outside the top 60 on the money list, the cut off number for retaining full playing rights next year.
Griffin has found his comfort zone in Japan since joining the Tour in 2015 and is presently on track for his best season there.
The leading Australasian money winners for the year, Michael Hendry and Brad Kennedy, will both be keen to add to their tally though neither has a particularly good record at this event.
Kennedy has missed the cut twice in three attempts while Hendry’s best was T18 last year to go alongside a missed cut and a tail of the field finish.
