Big week ahead for Cullen

Nick Cullen has given himself the chance to earn a European Tour card by playing his way into the field for the Challenger Tour’s Road to Oman Grand Final next week.

""The 2014 Australian Masters winner played solid golf at the Ras Al Khaimah Challenge last week to finish the regular season 39th on the season long standings and book a place in the final event of the season reserved for the top-45.

While he will have his work cut out for him, Cullen now has a chance to play his way into the top-15 by the end of next week and be guaranteed rights for the 2017 European Tour.

It’s been an impressive performance from Cullen in 2016 who has played just 10 events on the secondary Tour, less than all but one other player in the top-45.

With three top-10 finishes in his 10 starts, he is more than capable of finishing in the top-3 in the final event of the season to make the top-15 on the moneylist. ..

Cullen has been unable to play his way onto one of the world’s main Tour since claiming the Australian Masters two years ago and will be motivated to perform this week.

While Cullen will be playing for his place on the 2017 Tour, New Zealand’s Ryan Fox is already assured of playing right.

The 29-yearold sits third on the Road to Oman and still has a slim chance of finishing in the coveted number one spot.

The top ranked player at the end of next week receives full exemption to the European Tour, a valuable bonus that allows the golfer to set their year’s schedule in advance.

Fox presently sits 60,000 points behind leader Jordan Smith and would need to win this week, and have Smith finish down the field, to take top spot.

However, 2016 has been a success for Fox regardless of this week’s outcome as he atoned for missing his card last year by less than 2,000 points at season’s end.
