Scott Barr has come agonisingly close to a
maiden Asian Tour victory at the weekend, turning around a horror run of form
to miss a playoff by a shot at the Yeangder tournament in Taipei.
The 44-year-old took a three shot lead in
to the final round but struggled to get any momentum Sunday and battled to a
2-over 74.
His 11-under total for the week was one
shot shy of a playoff for the title and while he will be disappointed with his
final round play will take plenty of confidence from his performance after a
horror start to the year.
Barr had missed the cut in all seven events
he had played leading into the week and hadn’t broken 70 in 14 rounds.
However, he found something in his game
since his previous event in April and opened with 68-67-68, the three sub 70
efforts good for a three stroke advantage on the field.
His first cheque of the year moved him to
67th on the Order of Merit and with the top-60 retaining playing
rights for 2017 he now has a good chance of keeping his card.
Sam Brazel was next best of the Australians
at T10 with Michael Wright (T13) the only other Australian inside the top-20.
Adam Groom and Terry Pilkadaris (T29),
Kevin Lee (T38), David Lutterus (T46) and Darren Tan (T66) were the other
Australians to make the weekend.
