Baddeley’s impressive bounce-back at Colonial

Back-to-back double bogeys weren’t enough to derail Aaron Baddeley’s final round at the Charles Schwab Challenge, the Victorian finishing as the best of the Australians at famed Colonial Country Club in Texas.

"AaronAs Kevin Na cruised to a four-shot win none of the Australasians in the field mounted any kind of Sunday charge but Baddeley did show impressive resilience to bounce back after a mid-round stumble cost him four shots.

Tied for 53rd through three rounds, Baddeley made the turn at 2-under par for the day but struck trouble when his tee shot at the par-4 10th found the left rough. He was barely able to advance the ball much more than 60 metres with his second shot and then three-putted for a double-bogey six.

The next hole was no better.

Again a wayward tee shot and unforgiving rough conspired against Baddeley, whose second shot out of the right rough went just 50 metres at the par-5 11th, leaving him with a shot from 270 metres out of the rough for his third.

A fairway bunker followed by a greenside bunker and two putts added up to a double-bogey seven to suddenly be 2-over on his round.

But he refused to roll over and after making a 20-footer for birdie at the par-4 15th hit his tee shot at the par-3 16th to inside five feet for a second straight birdie, his even-par round pushing him to a tie for 48th.

Kiwi Danny Lee fell 11 spots on Sunday to be tied with Baddeley in a tie for 48th at 3-over par, Aussies Matt Jones and Rod Pampling both failing to qualify for the weekend.
