The Web.com Tour begins in earnest this week with the United Leasing Championship the first in a run of three straight tournaments on the secondary Tour.
Seven Australians will be among the starters led by former PGA TOUR player Robert Allenby who holds top spot among the Aussies on the money list to date.
None are inside the all-important top-25 at this early stage of the season with Allenby’s 46th position two better than Rhein Gibson.
Those two will be joined in this week’s field by Web.com veteran Steve Allan, former PGA TOUR players Stuart Appleby, Peter Lonard and Mark Hensby and Web.com rookie Jamie Arnold.
Former Web.com player Bryden Macpherson will also tee up having finished T1 at the Monday qualifying tournament.
Allenby, Appleby and Arnold all make their tournament debut this week in Indiana while those who have teed up previously have had little in the way of success.
Gibson has missed the cut both years he has played while Lonard’s 71st place finish last year was his only weekend appearance in three tries.
Steve Allan has never missed the cut here but boasts a best finish of T36 which came at last year’s tournament.
With the stop start nature of the Web.com season to date it is difficult to gauge form so far in 2017 though the schedule becomes more regular beginning this week.
All seven Australians who are teeing up this week will be looking to play their way into form over the next month in preparation for a busy American summer.
There are just two weeks without tournaments between now and the season ending Tour Championship and the race for the top-25 begins in earnest this week.
