Robert Allenby has endured a difficult few years in the game but showed glimpses of his considerable talent in his third Web.com Tour start of the year in Louisiana with a top five finish.

""Allenby, who lost his PGA TOUR playing privileges at the end of 2016, is a four-time winner at the top echelons of the game but finds himself playing the secondary circuit in 2017 for the first time in his career.

There was little to like about his game in his first two starts in the Bahamas but with the Tour returning to the US mainland for the first time this year Allenby found something to his liking.

The Victorian was a model of consistency at the Le Triomphe Golf and Country Club signing for scores of 67-68-67-68 on his way to 14-under and a T5 finish.

The result is his first top 10 in the US since 2014 when he was T8 at the Frys.com Open on the PGA TOUR.

Allenby’s turnaround in form saw him comfortably claim top Australian honours ahead of Sydney’s Jamie Arnold who was 10-under and T25.

It was Arnold’s fifth start of the season after earning his card at last year’s Tour school and his first made cut of the year.

A third round 65 was the highlight for Arnold, the former top ranked amateur reeling of five birdies in the first seven holes Saturday to move up the standings.

Monday qualifier David Lutterus (T35), Peter Lonard (T45) and Steve Allan (T61) were the other Australians to make the cut, Nick Cullen and Rhein Gibson missing the weekend’s play.
