After missing seven cuts in nine starts Steve Allan found something at this week’s Web.com event to post his first top-10 of the year and likely save his card for 2017.
The 42-year-old was outside the top-100 earners on the secondary Tour after another missed cut last week and looking likely to lose playing privileges for next year.
But some phenomenal golf at the Price Cutter Charity Championship in Missouri, particularly a third round 63, has resurrected his year with the Victorian now projected to move to 82nd on the money list
More importantly, though, the performance will have given his confidence a boost after a lean season where he has made just 10 cuts in 18 starts.
The timely good play comes with just two full field events remaining before the four event Finals Series which Allan now has a chance of competing in.
The top 75 on the money list will be part of the four tournament swing that will decide 25 of the 50 PGA TOUR cards to be handed out for 2017 and at 82nd on the standings Allan could play his way in.
Allan was the best of the Australians in Missouri with Oliver Goss, whose game has shown progress the past month, next best at T25.
The West Australian was a model of consistency over the four days with rounds of 68-68-69-70 to be 13-under for the week.
Scott Gardiner (T44) and Bryden Macpherson (T62) were the final two Australians to play all four days, Brett Drewitt, Mathew Goggin and Peter Lonard all missing the 36 hole cut.
