The Web.com Tour’s two week South American swing kicks off with the Club Colombia Championship this week with regulars Steve Allan and Rhein Gibson looking to capitalise on decent starts to the season.

After two difficult weeks in the Bahamas, both players find themselves inside the top-35 on the early season money list but know the importance of keeping pace early in the season in the year-long race for PGA TOUR cards.

Allan has recorded one missed cut and one T15 result in the two events played to date, Gibson a T58 and T15, but both know good results over the coming fortnight can lay the foundation for a successful 2017 campaign.

For Gibson this is just his second start in the tournament having finished near the tail of the field last year while Allan has made five previous starts with disappointing results.

A T69 in 2015 remains the only time he has played all four rounds with four missed cuts, including last year, suggesting he is yet to find the key to playing the Bogota CC well.

Allan and Gibson lead a four strong Australian challenge with Mark Hensby and Peter Lonard also in the field this week.

Hensby continues to work towards a comeback after his promising career was curtailed by a car accident in the mid 2000’s, the 45-year-old eligible for a start this week courtesy of his past champion status on the PGA TOUR.

Hensby won the 2004 John Deere Classic and played on the 2005 Presidents Cup team before the accident, and several shoulder surgeries, saw his career slip.

Lonard is entitled to several starts on the secondary Tour in 2017 as he approaches his 50^th birthday and prepares for a tilt at the Champions Tour.

He will play both this week and next in Panama ahead of his 50^th birthday in July.
