Steve Allan will be fighting for his Professional life when he tees up at this week’s Winco Foods Open on the Web.com Tour, the tournament his last chance to keep his status for the 2018 season.
As the last remaining full field event before the four tournament Finals Series starts next week, Allan needs to earn enough money to climb inside the top 100 earners to be guaranteed playing rights for next season.
The 44-year-old enters the week in 122nd position on the money list and at nearly $15,000 behind 100th spot knows he needs to finish at least inside the top 15 to have any chance.
A T26 last year is his best finish at this course but he showed signs of life last week when he opened with a 66 to be near the top of the leaderboard though faded to mid-field by week’s end.
Robert Allenby is also playing for his future as he sits outside the top 100 though at 108th can be somewhat more optimistic of qualifying for the 2018 season.
As Allan and Allenby battle for their cards Rhein Gibson will be aiming to maintain his place inside the top 75 who earn the chance at a PGA TOUR card via the upcoming Finals Series.
Gibson slipped to 71st on the money list after missing the cut last week though will have good memories to draw on in Oregon after a T4 finish here last year.
Jamie Arnold and Mark Hensby round out the Australian challenge, Hensby all but done for the year at 139th on the money list while Arnold still has a mathematical chance to make the top 25 if he can finish first or second.
