At the end of last year we looked into our crystal ball and made a bunch of predictions for the 2014 season let’s have a look how they fared.
Well it’s the end of the year and its time to evaluate how we went. While some of our tips were on the money some were very wide of the mark.
- Jason Day will win a Major: Ok he didn’t win a Major but he did win the WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship in a massive battle against Victor Dubuisson. If you can’t win a Major a WGC is the next best thing so we were close.
- Australian players will dominate on the Web.com Tour resulting in our biggest contingent of players in years on the 2015 PGA TOUR: This one didn’t quite work out as planned. Aussies didn’t dominate on the Web.com Tour but Cameron Percy did ensure an Aussie win and wrapped up his PGA TOUR card for 2015.
- Adam Scott will compete in a PGA TOUR event…. without anchoring his putter: Well we said it was a big call and turns out it was. Scotty is sticking strong with his attachment to the long putter but 2016 is getting awfully close.
- Marcus Fraser will win on the European Tour: We couldn’t have been more wrong on this one! Fraser had a year to forget, sidelined by injury for most of it. However he did show good form when he made his return towards the end of the year, onwards and upwards in 2015!
- Steve Bowditch will make the Tour Championship by finishing Top 30 on the FedExCup standings: Bowdo didn’t make the Tour Championship however he did have his first win on the PGA TOUR so we will take that.
- Peter Senior will FINALLY win on the Champions Tour with his son Mitch on the bag: Another one where we were extremely wide of the mark but after Senior had been one of the most consistent performers on the Champions Tour who could blame us. Rather than getting a win Senior experience one of his worst ever seasons and failed to keep his card. Could that be the end to his international playing career?
- Three different players will hold of the World No. 1 position throughout the year, including Adam Scott: Tick and tick! 19th May 2014 was the day Adam Scott ascended the Official World Golf Rankings, knocking Tiger Woods from the top spot. However just 11 weeks later, Rory McIlroy became the third person to help the number 1 place and will close out 2014 on top.
- Stenson, Scott & Woods will finish Top 10 in every major in 2014: Another big call which unfortunately didn’t come about. Scott was close with two top-10 finishes and a further two top-15 places. Stenson also had two top-10 finishes but let us down with a T38 at the Masters. While Woods was absent at the Masters and US Open, he missed the cut at the PGA Championship and finished 69th at The Open.
- Matt Jones will move inside the Top 50 players in the world: This prediction certainly came true! Jones entered the top-50 players following his win at the Shell Houston Open but will end the year ranked 78th.
- Adam Scott will return to Australia next summer and win the triple crown: This was a lot of wishful thinking and while Scott did have a strong summer with two runner-up finishes and an outright 5th he closes the year without a win on home soil.
