Kiwi legend Michael Campbell will jump into the senior ranks at the deep end this weekend as the 50-year-old prepares for his over-50 debut at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in New York.

Campbell, the 2005 US Open champion, is one of 20 Major champions contesting the second seniors major of the year after Steve Stricker triumphed at the Regions Tradition tournament two weeks ago.

Hall of Fame members Retief Goosen, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie, Mark O’Meara, and Vijay Singh are also teeing it up along with Ladbrokes Legends Tour winner Richard Gilkey and Aussie trio Stephen Leaney, Peter Fowler and David McKenzie who was 39th at the Regions Tradition.

After almost four years out of professional golf Campbell made his return at the 100th New Zealand Open in March just weeks after turning 50, missing the cut at The Hills and also a week later at the SEC NZ PGA Championship.

Campbell’s only tournament appearances in 2014 and 2015 were at the Abu Dhabi Championship so it will be interesting to see how he fares when he commences his first round alongside Lyle and American Steve Flesch.

Leaney was tied for 10th in just his second Champions Tour start at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic and has been drawn in a high-profile group with major champions Vijay Singh and Darren Clarke while Peter Fowler will be out to transfer his 2018 form on Europe’s Staysure Tour to the United States.
