Senden’s ideal Open preparation

John Senden had the ideal preparation for the upcoming Open Championship by posting his best round of the week on Sunday of the Scottish Open.

John Senden had the ideal preparation for the upcoming Open Championship by posting his best round of the week on Sunday of the Scottish Open.

"JohnSenden, the only one of the six Australians
in the field to make the cut, jumped 35 places up the leaderboard with a final
round 67, a score bettered by only four players on Sunday at Gullane.

The Queenslander was sharp with his irons
over the final 18 holes finding 16 of 18 greens and while better putting will
be required at St Andrews solid ball striking is key at the old Course,
particularly if the wind gets up.

The two time PGA TOUR winner will be pleased
with most aspects of his game at Gullane where scores of 68-68-71-67 saw him
finish T22.

It was a less than pleasing week for the rest
of the Australians contingent in what was an uncharacteristically low scoring
affair.

Perfect conditions and a strong field in the
lead up to next week’s Open saw the cut come at 2-under, Andrew Dodt, Scott
Hend, Marcus Fraser, Richard Green and Wade Ormsby all finding themselves the
wrong side of that number Friday evening.

It was a disappointing result for Fraser and
Hend in particular with both hoping for more positive play in the lead up to St
Andrews.

Fraser was two shots outside the cut line
after struggling to find fairways and greens in the second round while Hend
missed by three shots after registering 32 putts each of the first two days.
