Challenge Tour sensation Ryan Fox has never finished outside the top-5 in a tournament in France and he will look to continue that trend at this week’s Cordon Golf Open.
The two time PGA Tour of Australasia winner finished T5 in his first ever Challenge Tour event at the Najeti Open in France in June then notched his first international win the week after The Open Championship at the
Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge, also in France.
Now fourth on the Order of Merit and guaranteed a card for 2016’s European Tour, Fox is looking to climb as far up the standings as possible to improve his ranking next year.
He is one of three Australasians teeing up this week, big hitting rookie Geoff Drakeford earning a sponsor’s invitation and Scott Arnold also returning after two weeks off. Dimi Papadatos is also listed as an alternate for the tournament.
This marks Drakeford’s fifth start on the Challenge Tour where he has found his feet early with some good performances.
A runner-up finish in Spain in July has been the highlight and a win before the end of the season is not out of the question for the talented 23-year-old who only turned Professional at the back end of last year.
Already 51st on the Order of Merit with the top-45 earning automatic exemption for next year, Drakeford looks likely to guarantee a 2016 return but he will have his sights on the loftier goal of making the top-15 and graduating to the European Tour.
For Scott Arnold this week represents another chance to recapture the form he displayed in finishing T40 at The Open at St Andrews.
His final round 66 that week was a testament to his potential but the Sydneysider has struggled all year to put together four good rounds.
There have been flashes of brilliance but consistency is the key at this level and Arnold needs to find more of that if he is to climb the Order or Merit.
Currently 69th he has work to do to guarantee playing rights for next year and if he is to achieve the ultimate goal of advancing to the main Tour he needs to lift quickly.
