Scott Hend continued a remarkable record at the Asian Tour’s Macau Open, posting his second win in three years at the event after finishing runner-up last year.
The Queenslander out-dueled 2014 champion Anirban Lahiri this week, turning the tables on the Indian born Presidents Cup player who beat Hend into second last year.
Starting the final round three shots clear of Lahiri, Hend made his intentions clear early with three birdies in the opening nine to match the defending champion.
Two more birdies on the back nine saw Hend post an impressive 5-under 66 and maintain his three shot cushion, the bogey free final round leading to his seventh career Asian Tour win.
"Feel relief and rewarded as I’ve worked hard the last few weeks in Europe," Hend told the Asian Tour website.
"I knew Anirban wasn’t going to go away. He’s a great player and I just went out there with the aim to shoot a good score as I knew they had to catch me.
"I can’t really remember much about 2013 (his win). I remember more about last year where I didn’t play solid down the stretch and Anirban got me. So this year, it is a different feeling.
"I just tried to make the right choices and not put any pressure on myself and let Anirban have a sniff. I was concerned about Anirban once he gets a sniff it’s pretty hard to get in front of him."
The win likely sees Hend earn a spot in the upcoming WGC event in China as well as the PGA TOUR co-sanctioned CIMB tournament in Malaysia by way of his current second placing on the order of Merit.
Sam Brazel was next best of the Australians finishing T8 with Terry Pilkadaris and Andrew Dodt (T17) and Jarrod John Freeman, Adam Groomand Nathan Holman (T24) all in the top 25.
Hend now heads to Hong Kong to defend the title that earned him his European Tour card when he won last year.
