Richard Green’s consistent brand of golf saw him beat home Marcus Fraser at the Turkish Airlines Open to take top honours amongst the only two Australians in this week’s European Tour field.
Green returned rounds of 71-70-72-70 for a 5-under-par total, two shots ahead of Fraser, in an event that saw France’s Victor Dubuisson take the trophy at 22-under for the week.
Neither Fraser nor Green were ever in serious contention in what was a low scoring affair, 19 players finishing 10-under-par of better for the four rounds.
The Turkish event was the first of the four Race to Dubai finals events, Fraser the only Australian guaranteed a position thanks to his standing at the end of the regular season Order of Merit.
While he won’t be eligible for the second event, this week’s WGC tournament in China, he will tee up in the final two events of the series in China and Dubai.
Green’s season is now officially over as he only qualified for this week’s event in Turkey because of the absence of several of the Tour’s top money winners.
As a number of the top-60 were in Malaysia for the PGA TOUR’s CIMB Classic, the eligibility criteria extended into the 70’s on the Race to Dubai standings and at 74 Green was accepted into the field.
