Wade Ormsby has kicked off 2016 in encouraging fashion, carding a final round 69 to jump 20 places up the leader board at the Abu Dhabi Championship.

In difficult conditions on Sunday the South Australian was one of only 20 players to break 70, his 6-under total for the week seeing him to an eventual T26 result.

It was a positive finish to the week for Ormsby whose good play over the first two days was mostly undone by a cold putter Saturday, a disappointing 74 the result of 33 strokes with the flat stick.

However, there was much to like about his first tournament since missing the cut at the Australian PGA Championship including making five sand saves from five attempts in his opening round 69.

After an inconsistent 2015 on the heels of his best year as a Professional in 2014, Ormsby will be looking to right the ship this year and showed signs of a return to form in Abu Dhabi.

Two other Australians made the cut, Brett Rumford and Scott Hend, Rumford closing with a 73 to drop 11 places down the leader board to T35 while Hend posted his best score of the week, a 2-under 70, to climb 11 places to T54.

The highlight for Rumford was a second round 67 which included just 26 putts and a perfect six from six up and downs.

For Hend, erratic driving proved costly as he hit just 25 of 56 fairways for the week though recovered well with his irons to hit 46 of 72 greens in regulation.

Marcus Fraser struggled to find his range with the putter on his way to a missed cut while Andrew Dodt was done in by a second round 77 after finding only five greens in regulation.

Nathan Holman was uncharacteristically poor in all departments in his first event as a full member of the European Tour, two triple bogies for the week an indication of his struggles.
