Two time Major Champion David Graham can’t help but marvel
at fellow Australian and World Number 1 Jason Day.
Graham, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame
last year, like many golf fans, is in awe of Jason Day’s talent on and off the golf course.
"Jason is a
phenomenal player and an even better athlete. His ability to hit the ball as
far and straight as he does really sums up the state of his game," said Graham.
"Physically, he is
so strong and let’s not forget that he is a wonderful putter and has great
nerves. He is the total package, which is why the sky is the limit for him."
"What’s even more impressive is his ability to
find balance in his life. I think he is trying to do what Jack (Nicklaus) did:
finding a routine and a tournament schedule that allows for ample family time."
Day has already won
a Major, the 2015 PGA Championship, but with the U.S. Open looming Graham is
predicting big things for the World Number 1.
"Jason
has found a way to excel on the putting green. He has come to grips with being
able to make the big pressure putts. That’s the hardest part of the game and
Jason makes it look easy," added Graham, who is reminded of Day’s childhood
hero Tiger Woods when he sees the young Aussie in action.
"I
would have to say that Jason reminds me of Tiger Woods. He is aggressive, plays
under control and is extraordinarily skilled. Like Tiger, he seems to have a
killer instinct once he gets the lead."
"If
he stays focused, I would say half a dozen Majors for Jason are
attainable."
Graham
is also particularly fond of the way Day, who is the MyGolf ambassador, is
helping to inspire the next generation of Aussies.
"Greg
Norman took Australia’s golf reputation to a whole new level. Adam Scott also
raised the country’s profile with his Masters win. Jason has the opportunity to
carry the torch and shine a light on Australia," added Graham.
"It’s
no secret that he didn’t have the best upbringing, but what he has been able to
achieve shows what type of player and person he is."
"He
brings hope to all players who are
less fortunate and aim to succeed in all
walks of life – not just golf."
