Most of the Aussie contingent will be left waiting another night to tee
off their U.S. Open campaigns after storms and flooding caused the first round
to be suspended overnight.

Teeing off in the first group of the day, Aron Price opened with a birdie to hold the lead in his second U.S. Open for a brief moment. 

As electrical storms hit Oakmont, play was suspended for an hour and 19 minutes with a second delay forcing players off the course for 2 hours and 26 minutes. 

Amongst all of this, Price was able to complete his round, however his opening birdie was the only highlight on his scorecard which showed a first round of 6-over 76. 

Price was the only Aussie to complete his first round, the only other Aussie to join him on course on Thursday was Marc Leishman.

The Victorian is holding his own on the Oakmont layout which has had its ferocity somewhat mitigated by the rain. 

Leishman has reeled off two birdies and three bogeys to be 1-over the card with four holes still to play in his opening round. 

He will have overnight to contemplate those holes after round one has been suspended until Friday with torrential rain causing the fairways and greens to be under water. 

Still to begin their rounds are World Number 1 Jason Day, Adam Scott, Steven Bowditch, Geoff Ogilvy and Cameron Smith.
