After winning
his first PGA Tour China event two weeks ago and jumping to third on the Order
of Merit, Rohan Blizard will be looking to solidify his position when the field
tees off at this week’s Sunning Estate Nanjing Zhongshan Open.
Blizard, a
former Australian Amateur Champion, registered a one stroke victory at his last
outing after taking the 54-hole lead before the final round was washed out.
Playing his
second year on the PGA Tour China, Blizard is hopeful of finishing among the
top-5 money earners at the end of the season and earning status on the secondary
Web.com Tour.
He will be one
of 23 Australians teeing off in this week’s event, South Australia’s Max
McCardle among them and looking to reignite his season after cooling off from a
fast start.
Two top-10
finishes in the first two tournaments of the year had McCardle in the top-10 of
the standings early but a mid field finish and a missed cut since have seen him
fall to 12th place.
McCardle and
Blizard are the only two Australians inside the top-20 on the Order of Merit
after four of 12 scheduled events, Lincoln Tighe next best at T27.
Those three
are all in this week’s field as are the likes of Jake Higginbottom, David
McKenzie, former PGA TOUR player David Lutterus and Scott Laycock.
Just two
events remain before the Tour takes a break and returns later in the year for
the final six tournaments of the season.
