Jordan
Zunic will join 10 of Australia’s Asian Tour regulars when this week’s
European Tour co-sanctioned King’s Cup tees off in Thailand.
The event,
which was last played in 2014, is the first to be co-sanctioned under a new
formal ‘Strategic Alliance’ announced by the two Tours in recent weeks.
The new
arrangement will see an office set up in Singapore and the two organisations
working together to grow the game throughout Asia and internationally.
And many of
Australia’s Touring Professionals are set to benefit as the closer working
arrangement will mean more opportunities to gain access to European Tour
events.
This week’s
field comprises 90 players from the Asian Tour, 25 from The European Tour, 25
from Thailand PGA and 16 invite spots.
Prize money
earned from the tournament will count towards both the Asian Tour’s Order of
Merit and also the Race to Dubai ranking on the European Tour.
Asian Tour
regulars Sam Brazel, Josh Younger, Michel Wright, Scott Barr, Adam Groom, Terry
Pilkadaris, Kalem Richardson, Unho Park and Jordan Sherratt will be looking to
take advantage of the new arrangement when the tournament gets underway
Thursday as will invitee Zunic.
Kalem
Richardson finished T4 the last time the event was played and after a difficult
year will be keen to return to a course with some good memories.
Richardson
has teed up just eight times this season for a best finish of T19 and currently
sits outside the top-60 on the Order of Merit.
Only those
inside the top-60 at season’s end retain their cards for next season.
