It was a
gutsy effort from Scott Barr in the final event of 2015 to keep his Asian Tour
card and after some early struggles in 2016 the 44-year-old is finding form
again.
A T3 result
at the Yeangder tournament early this month was his first made cut of the year
and he finished top Australian again this week at the European Tour
co-sanctioned Kings Cup in Thailand.
Barr
returned three sub-70 scores at the Phoenix Gold Golf Club, his best a 5-under
65 which came Sunday to jump from the tail of the field to outright 14th.
A cheque
for $10,890 moved Barr to 65th on the Order of Merit and now a good
chance to retain playing rights again for 2017 with the top-60 at season’s end
automatically exempt for next season.
Terry
Pilkadaris was next best a stroke further back and T15, Asian Tour regular Sam
Brazel the last of the Australians in the top -25 at 2-under and T24.
Former PGA
TOUR player David Lutterus was the only other Australian to make the cut, a
2-over final round seeing him finish 5-over for the week and T70.
Tournament
invitee Jordan Zunic made a disappointing late bogey in his second round to
miss the cut by a shot, Adam Groom, Josh Younger, Unho Park, Jordan Sherratt
and Michael Wright also missing the weekend.
