2016 PGA Player of the Year Adam Blyth enters the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship presented by Wippells Auto’s as one of the marquee attractions this week.

The Queenslander had a strong start to the 2017 season with a top-30 finish in the Victorian PGA Championship, T6 in the Oates Vic Open and T9 in the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth.

Blyth played well to finish even par in last week’s ISPS HANDA New Zealand Open but still missed the cut in the low scoring event.

However Blyth has his game back on track and is hoping for a return to form this week.

“I’ve had a great start to the year but last week was just a little off. It wasn’t a bad week I was even par through two rounds but just not good enough,” Blyth said.

“I pride myself on good course management and I probably didn’t do that as well as I should’ve last week.

“I just didn’t hit it as well as I would’ve liked, I made a lot of birdies, nine birdies for even par, but I’ve got to cut the mistakes out. I didn’t execute the shots I needed and then maybe tried to push a little harder instead of being patient.

“But I’ll learn from that and move forward and hopefully can make it happen this week.”

The 35-year-old is no stranger to Toowoomba’s City Golf Club course and can see a lot of low scores to come from the four rounds with a high quality field assembled this year.

He said course knowledge will play a big part in the outcome this week, and hopefully the course management he prides himself on will be a strong boost to his chances of winning his first QLD PGA Championship.

“I’ve played here fair bit. I played a lot here when I was younger but the last three years I’ve played this tournament and this course. There’s a lot of birdies out here, but you’ve also got to be clever,” Blyth added.

“It’s not a course where you just go okay there are birdies here and be very aggressive, you’ve got to be clever about it and wait for the birdies.

“There are some great players here this week and it’s a really good field so hopefully I can come out on top.”

Blyth is looking forward to playing the tournament he says has a fantastic community feel and expects a big crowd of locals to come out for the final round on Sunday.

“It’s kind of a typical country Queensland golf course and it’s a really great golf club. The club itself is the place to be in Toowoomba really.

“The Toowoomba people really get behind it and get great crowds out here so I think everyone really enjoys this week.”

The Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship presented by Wippells Autos will be played from 16-19 March at City Golf Club in Toowoomba with a field of 120 players vying for a prize purse of AU$125,000.

The winner will receive Official World Golf Ranking Points and become fully exempt on to the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia for the remainder of this season plus a further season.
