Japan Tour regular Adam Bland has made a strong start to his 2017 campaign with a top-10 finish at his season opener, the Token Homemate Cup.
The event was the first of the season to be played on Japanese soil though Bland played the two co-sanctioned events, in Singapore and Myanmar, earlier in the year.
The left hander returned scores of 71-67-65-71 to be T8 at the end of the week, six shots ahead of the next best Australian Todd Sinnott who was T33.
Sinnott is the leading Australian on the Japan Tour money list following his victory at the co-sanctioned Myanmar Open, currently sitting third in earnings.
The big hitting Victorian was inside the top-10 after an opening round of 2-under but found the going tough over the middle two rounds with back to back scores of 1-over 72.
However, he roared home Sunday with six birdies and two bogeys in a round of 67 to move almost 20 places up the standings.
Matt Griffin, Michael Hendry and Won Joon Lee were the other Australasians to make the cut, Griffin finishing T44, Lee T51 and Hendry alone in 58th at 2-over for the week.
Brendan Jones, Brad Kennedy and Kurt Barnes all missed the weekend’s play after all failing to finish at par or better for the opening two rounds.
