Three players are tied for the lead heading into the final round of the Morobe Open, including Michael Wright, Chris Wood and Brett Rankin.

""Rankin fired the round of the day to storm into a tie for the lead with 8-under 63, including nine birdies.

The Queenslander’s only blemish came at the par three 17th hole.

“I just hit a poor shot into the front left bunker and didn’t make the up and down, otherwise I hit the ball great today,” Rankin said.

“I’ve been playing well all week with the only difference today being that I made some putts.

“The winning score will potentially be 18 under tomorrow, so I’m going to need have another solid round in the low 60’s to have a chance.”

Fellow Queenslander Chris Wood has played consistently all week and is in position to win the largest tournament of his career thus far.

“My strategy all week has just been to keep things simple by hitting fairways, greens and trying to hole some putts," Wood said.

“There is no reason for me to steer away from that game plan tomorrow, though I know I need to shoot another low score if I’m going to be in with a chance.”

The shot of the day however belonged to 2012 Morobe Open Champion Josh Younger who holed his second shot with a 4 iron to record an albatross at the 445m par five 2nd hole on his way to a 5-under par 66.

The final round of the Morobe Open tees of tomorrow morning at 8.30am, with final group including our three leaders Rankin, Wood and Wright due to tee off at 10.30am.
