Ormsby on a roll

After qualifying for his first Major championship early in the week Wade Ormsby will be keen to continue his 2017 resurgence with another strong performance at the Nordea Masters.

After qualifying for his first Major championship early in the week Wade Ormsby will be keen to continue his 2017 resurgence with another strong performance at the Nordea Masters.

""Ormsby will tee off at the Barseback Golf and Country Club in Sweden with plenty of confidence after booking his spot at the upcoming US Open at a 36 hole qualifier in England.

Playing the season on a major medical exemption after a mystery neck ailment curtailed his 2016 season, Ormsby has been building momentum all year and comes to a course this week where he has never missed the cut.

In three previous events at the layout, Ormsby has a best of T15 though will be keen to improve on that this week.

The disappointment of a missed weekend at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth will have been soothed to a degree by qualifying for the field at Erin Hills but returning just one top-10 finish since January will also be a motivator.

Ormsby is one of eight Australasians to make the journey to Sweden, Sam Brazel Scott Hend, Jason Scrivener, Marcus Fraser, Brett Rumford, New Zealander Ryan Fox and tournament invitee Richard Green also teeing up.

The week is a significant opportunity for the veteran Green who lost his playing privileges in cruel circumstances late last year.

After finishing outside the top-115 on the Race to Dubai at season’s end, the popular Victorian was relying on a career money list exemption to play the 2017 season.

Green was 39th on the all time earnings list when the season finished in October but by mid-November he had been overtaken by Branden Grace and the red hot Alex Noren to fall to 41st and no longer have access to a full schedule.

His previous form at Barseback has been less than stellar but the 43-year-old will be highly motivated this week as he tries to play his way back to the Tour.

Scott Hend boasts the best finish in this event of the Australasians in the field but his T4 in 2011 came at a different venue.

The big hitting Queenslander has never teed up in an official event at this course and comes to the week off a good final round at Wentworth.

While 2017 hasn’t been as kind to Hend as 2016 was, he has shown glimpses of brilliance in recent weeks and is capable of producing his best golf any given week.

Of the rest Marcus Fraser has the best result at this course after finishing T4 at Barseback in 2009 but he comes into the week with mixed form.

The Victorian is playing his third straight tournament after a lengthy break and after finishing T5 his first start back in Sicily promptly missed the cut at Wentworth last week.

Sam Brazel will be keen to make amends for missing just his second cut since joining the European Tour last while Ryan Fox will be hoping to break a run of three straight outs dating back to the Volvo China Open last month.
