Australian Professional Jarrod Lyle 35, has returned to Royal Melbourne Hospital for what doctors suspect will be a third fight against leukaemia.

Lyle has twice fought and beaten acute myeloid leukaemia – once in 1998 and again in 2012.

A spokesperson from the Lyle family released the following statement: “A routine blood test conducted earlier this week returned abnormal results and Jarrod was immediately admitted to hospital and placed under the care of his previous medical specialist. He will remain there at least until a full diagnosis has been made.

“He has undergone several tests and will have several more in the coming days. At this point, we have not yet received complete test results, so there is no definitive diagnosis and we do not have an agreed treatment plan.

“We cannot speculate about anything until we get more information. We are grateful to be surrounded by incredibly supportive people and we truly appreciate your consideration and respect for our privacy at this time.”

PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman joined a chorus of support from the Australian golfing community for the Lyle family during a difficult time.

“On behalf of the PGA of Australia and the Federation of Tours I’d like to pass on our best wishes to the Lyle family during this period,” Kirkman said.

“Jarrod is an excellent ambassador for golf both here in Australia and internationally, he inspired us all when he returned to competing professionally following a second fight with the devastating illness.

“We’re all behind Jarrod and his young family, we’re hoping for positive news in the coming days.”

Lyle is one of the most popular players with fans globally on all Tours and plays regularly on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia as well as competing on the national Pro-Am circuit this year.

He is truly one of the strongest supporters of the industry, recently beginning the PGA Bridging Program to further his career in golf and representing his fellow PGA Members on a National Council.
