Holman, Fraser fly flag at matchplay

Marcus Fraser and Nathan Holman will be looking to turn around some indifferent 2017 form when they tee up in the Paul Lawrie Saltire Energy Matchplay tournament in Germany this week.

""While many of Europe and Australia’s best have opted to head to Fiji for the Fiji International a compelling event awaits at the Bad Griesbach Resort.

The break from 72 hole strokeplay is the third of the 2017 season for the Tour after the annual WGC Matchplay event and innovative Super Sixes earlier in the year.

This week’s tournament features a field of 64 headlined by tournament host and 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie and former Ryder Cup stars Robert Karlsson, Nicolas Colsaerts and Victor Dubuisson.

Fraser and Holman have both struggled for form in 2017, Fraser making just three cuts in his 11 starts to date while Holman has made just one.

However, the switch away from strokeplay could well be the tonic both players are looking, the pressures associated with matchplay asking different questions of the player.

Fraser will meet Gregory Bourdy in the opening round of matches, the Frenchman also having an indifferent season with just one top 10 finish.

Holman will meet fellow young gun Paul Dunne on day one, the Irishman a dangerous opponent as he has played consistent golf all season.
