""The Newcastle native opened with a 67 and followed up with 68-69-67 to be 13-under and T14, nine shots behind winner Yusaku Miyazato.

At 82nd on the Order of Merit, Barnes needs some good results in coming weeks as some of the Tour’s richest tournaments are played.

A stroke behind Barnes and sharing 22nd place was Brad Kennedy whose rounds of 69-70-66-67 were an encouraging warm-up for this week’s Japan Open.

After missing the cut last start in his second event back from a shoulder injury, Kennedy was solid all week and will take some confidence into the Tour’s most prestigious event.

All four Australians who teed up made the cut, David Bransdon T34 at 1-under and Aaron Townsend sharing 54th at 6-under.
